Getting your computer kitted up with the software you'll need to get the most out of it can be daunting, not to mention rather expensive if you buy a software package only to find when you load it that you don't actually like it. But not all software packages come with a large pricetag attached.

This section is split into four parts, each giving an introduction, links for you to download relevant software packages, and advice on running each program. All programs are either free or "try before you buy".

Chat is obviously for communications tools, while the Media section covers both audio and video players, and other software you may require to view or access common forms of downloadable content on the net. The Open Source section is primarily productivity software (eg: office applications, graphics editors, etc), while Security covers all you need to stay virus and spyware free.
